Pleasures of Art

Coleen Henry

Coleen HenryOriginally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, artist Coleen Henry has been residing in south Florida for over 30 years and is constantly inspired by its tropical beauty. “I often find myself intensely focused on the intricacies of nature along with its kaleidoscope of colors and creatures,” she says.

Basically self-taught, Coleen, with gratitude to her mentors and teachers, is currently known for her commercial and residential murals. Her Venice historical mural can be seen along the Venetian Waterway, and others at the Jacaranda Public Library.

Nancy Colby

Nancy Colby

Artist Nancy Colby is an accomplished artist in watercolors and acrylics and also teaches at the Venice Art Center and North Port Art Center, with students painting their choice of subject matter. The paintings we highlight in this issue are a collection of her former and present Christmas themes.

Brendan Coudal

Brendan CoudalOur featured artist, Brendan Coudal, chose not to pursue his childhood interest in art until he reached a turning point in his life – after the 9/11 tragedy. “It was a time when many of us re-examined our lives,” says Brendan. Shortly after, he used a paint set his father had given him to create his first watercolor beach scene. After studying with several well-known artists, Brendan chose to paint marine life that captured the excitement of sport fishing he gained through his expertise as an angler and charter captain.

Marie Poulin

Marie Poulin

Originally from Canada, Marie Poulin is a graduate of the Université Laval in Quebec. Marie started painting in watercolor in 1999. She refined her techniques under the guidance of master watercolorists in both the United States and Canada.

Captivated by the transparency of the medium, Marie favors vibrant colors in her watercolors. She receives her inspiration from the beautiful tropical surroundings and flowers which she is fortunate to enjoy since moving to Sarasota county 16 years ago. Marie paints from a studio in Nokomis, Florida.
